It's official - I'll be going back to school this fall.
Aside from the dire lack of free time these days, things aren't going too bad at all. However, I really wish I have more time to do everything that I want to do - I still have a big backlog of music to make, games to play, and stories to tell.
Meh.

Well, it's been another long time. This year has been pretty unfortunate for me so far, but it helped me realize that I have pretty awesome friends and family.
To say the least, I'm in a transition period of sorts right now - back at the crossroads that I thought I left behind about a year and a half ago. And I still don't feel strongly about what I want to do or where I want to be. Having lived most of my life just going with the flow, it's hard to suddenly make big decisions like this, you know? The immediate future's looking rather cloudy indeed.
In other news, I've been trying to make music again recently. Back around December and January, some acquaintances challenged me into making music similar in style to the Touhou games. The end product is lacking in terms of instrumentation and composition, but hopefully it has the same spirit.
The Touhou music - link
The end product - link
It seems to cut off abruptly, but it's meant to be loopable as background music for a game.

| Holiday Break '08 |
[02 Jan 2009|09:45am] |
Being at home for the holidays was a mixed bag of fun. It was great seeing friends and family in KC again, and good times were had. On one hand, it felt like I hadn't seen them for a pretty long time. It was about half a year since I'd seen them last, after all. But on the other, it kinda felt like I was never gone in the first place. Life at home was almost like the way it was before I started working. It's kinda comforting to know that there's still a place for me back in KC.
In other news, I spent New Year's Eve with some friends who were in ND. There were a lot of foods, drinks, and festivities. A particular game of Pictionary was so loud that it even drowned out those of us playing Rock Band! Unfortunately, we couldn't find any TV stations with the celebration synced up to our time, so we missed the dropping of the ball.
Well, that's all I've got for now. Until next time.

So it seems that Subjects are now direct hyperlinks to the post, which makes for an eye-stinging combination of blue on grey. I'll probably need to switch to a new style one of these days...
In other news, it seems that North American anime distributors are starting to stream free subtitled episides of relatively recent series on the Internet. Specifically, Viz Media is putting up subs of the newest episodes of Naruto Shippuden one week after they air in Japan, starting in January. (Source)
This is something I'd really like to see take off with other series and companies though I can't imagine it being terribly profitable for them. I'll still continue to buy box sets of older series I'd like to see though. A small way of showing my appreciation and supporting the companies... or something to that effect.

| An Update? |
[26 Nov 2008|10:34am] |
It's been quite a while since my last legitimate update, hasn't it? There really isn't much to say. Work and Fargo have been good to me so far, and I'm still into video games, manga, and anime. As can be seen from the previous post, I'm still doodling, too.
I've more or less settled into life here, though there are still pieces of furniture that I need to buy. It's a bit of an inconvenience since I can't have too many people over at once, but I'm not in any real hurry to finish decking the place out.
Lately, I've kinda taken up a new hobby in foosball (table soccer). The workplace now has two tables thanks to the negotiations of my UNL acquaintances, and we usually play every day during lunch break. We even have tournaments once a month, too. Somehow I've gained the reputation of being a relatively honorable player. Of course, my win record is abysmal. If you're interested, you can track my progress on Foosballstats.com, a site that the aforementioned acquaintances made.
P.S. - For those of you who care, I'll be back in KC between 12/19 - 12/28. Let's party like it's 1999!

So, uh, I haven't updated in a long time. However, words that I use here would probably be better used for my side project, so I'll try to keep things short.
Somehow, I managed to graduate at the end of Spring '08. The graduation ceremony was as long and boring as expected. My sister managed to graduate from high school, too. That ceremony was also long and boring. Unfortunately, one person's speech quoted Vitamin C's "Graduation."
We went to Texas about a week afterwards. Spending time with relatives is fun. It was too damn hot there for early summer. Highlights included watching cousins play Wii Fit, finding headless birds by the pool, and witnessing roofing gone bad. Also ate more Vietnamese food than I could handle in a year.
Shortly after returning, a friend got married. I ushered at the ceremony and got to light things up (candles). Unfortunately, I felt pretty sick during the reception and left early. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Joel Hensley!
Finally, Persona 3:FES is awesome. It took about 180 hours across 1.5 months to complete both parts. I became a bit of a Metis fan. The music is also great - I'm seriously considering buying the game's OST.
'Til next time!

Another worthless post. =P
So I was listening to the Beatmania and DDR songs that I liked from back in the day, and I came across this rare gem: Kouyou! I seriously hadn't heard it since the Play Central Station days and hearing it again really made my day.
You'll need to get an Imeem account to hear it, but it shouldn't cost anything to do so. It's a really nice song

After suffering from a demoralizing Thursday night, I was pretty tired and went to sleep relatively early last night.
I don't remember much about the dream except that I was on a trip of some sort to Washington D.C. It might have been a band trip of some sort, but I remembered seeing a couple friends and acquaintances (specifically, Teruko and Nao) who had little or nothing to do with music.
Anyhow, something happened with the plane for our direct flight, and we ended up having to take a roundabout path with layovers, plane changes, and all the nasty stuff that can go wrong with air travel. And we had to pay extra for it if we wanted to get to our destination quickly, too! Some of the people making the trip couldn't afford (or didn't want to pay for) the price hike, and ended up staying behind at one of the stops.
Unfortunately, Teruko was one of them, so I asked if there was something that I could get while in D.C. With a kind of enthusiasm that I hadn't seen or heard from her before, she gave the name of a particular classical CD - some compilation of Bach or Mozart's chamber music? - and something else that I can't remember now.
Eventually, we (the "D.C. or Bust!" people) got our hands on our own plane, and we planned to use it to get to there on our own. Since our plane lacked an official, licensed pilot, we had trouble getting permission for taking off (or was it landing?) at any airport, and the rest of the dream was spent eluding our pursuers.
Oddly enough, I woke up the next morning feeling really refreshed. Hoping for many more... =)

I think I've hit a slump of some sort.
Last night, it took me several hours to complete the remaining half of an assignment for EE306 and for EE361. The problems themselves weren't particularly difficult, but for some reason, not much of it made complete sense to me. The fact that I didn't see some of the material for at least a year didn't help at all. On the latter assignment, I couldn't solve one of the problems and decided to stop and cut my losses at 3:00 AM.
Oh well. The only thing I can do is keep on keeping on and hope that I do better than the majority of my classmates.

| Gold Stars! |
[31 Jan 2008|03:29pm] |
I finally got my first set of gold stars for playing drums on Rock Band! Granted, it's one of the easiest songs to play on expert, but it shows that I've come quite a ways since being a choke artist that couldn't get 5 stars on medium. I probably won't ever be as good as Ninji, but at least I can passably fill in for any (Rock) Band that needs a drummer. =P
In other news, I can finally say that I don't like this semester's classes that much. While they aren't terribly difficult if I work at it, I'm not interested in the subject matter at all. Specifically, the manufacturing and use of transistors. Three of my classes are basically about that stuff, and the fourth class is basically a rehash of a nightmarish physics from sophomore year. The only real highlights are World Music and Campus Band.
In other, other news, Advance Wars: Days of Ruin is great fun - I spent all of last weekend playing through the campaign for it. The music is seriously rockin', and the game has a lot of funny dialog, too. The most notable change to the system is the concept of "CO Zones." CO effects are now purely beneficial, but at the cost of having a limited area of effect, centered around the unit that you loaded your CO onto. This essentially makes the game more a battle of strategic positioning and unit selection than before. Effective use of the Zone and CO Powers are still game breaking, but it's nice to know that it doesn't really affect the whole map.

Others CSCE489 - R ???? - Demo Day ALEC102 - F 1200 - Final Report Due

In other news, I hope that I can muster the courage to follow through with what I planned to do. GUTS! >,<

Armik - Fragile Hearts |

Have you ever wondered what sort of messages are supposed to go in fortune cookies? While they are intended for entertainment purposes, it seems that they are generally inconsistent, ranging from predictions of the future to words of wisdom to self-esteem boosters.
I'd like to think that they're supposed to be predictions. Back in elementary school, my friends and I believed that if the lucky numbers on a fortune summed up to less than 100, then the fortune was more likely to come true. There may have been a few that more or less lined up with some good things that have happened to me.
Anyways, it's not hard to see why I sometimes hang on to the fortunes that I get. Selleck has them on days when they are serving Chinese, so I often grab one for each meal. Unfortunately, there are two problems with them. The first is that they don't have lucky numbers on them. The second is that they are rarely predictions. Here are some examples of the "fortunes" generally gotten from the cafeteria:
"You are sensitive and look deeply into yourself and others."
"Someone is thinking about you."
"Someone special admires you."
Uh, yeah... right.
(...if the latter two are true, come talk to me already. >_<)
